The CASS Foundation Grants


This program offers grants for medical and scientific research, post-doctoral travel, and programs in the field of school education.

The following grants are available: 
1. Medicine/Science Grants
- Grants of up to $60,000 (excluding GST) are available for specific research and development projects.
- This stream is available annually. Application opened 27 August and closed 14 September 2018, 5pm AEST
- The next funding round is expected to open in August 2019.

2. Travel Awards
- Aims to enable Early Career Researchers (ECR) to attend an international conference of significance to their research.
- Grants of up to $4,500 are available. Applicants are required to contribute at least 20% towards the total cost of the conference.
- This stream is available biannually. The 2019 funding round dates are:
a) Round 1: Opened 11 February and closed 1 March, 5pm AET
b) Round 2: Opens 12 August and closes 30 August, 5pm AET

3. Education Grants
- Seeks to support teacher development and students’ engagement in learning.
- The Directors of The CASS Foundation are currently assessing potential demand from schools and reviewing the Guidelines for 2019. School Leaders who are interested in applying for a 2019 CASS Education Grant are invited in the first instance to:
a) Contact the Foundation’s Education Program Manager to discuss their school's potential funding request for 2019.
b) Send a 1-page outline summary and preliminary costing of their school's 2019 concept proposal by email.
- All inquiries will be answered and a more detailed grant Application process may follow.

Eligible Activities

Eligible activities include:
1. Science/Medicine Grants
- ''Proof of concepts'' project which deals with a concept, hypothesis, postulate or the like that the applicant hopes to prove or to validate during the proposed research project, so that further research and development on the concept/hypothesis/postulate will be indicated as worthwhile.

2. Travel Awards
- Attend international conferences where applicants (ECRs) are expected to be presenting their current research as an invited presenter, as an oral presentation or a poster presentation. The research material to be presented at the conference should be current and not based primarily on the applicant’s PhD studies.
- May include pre or post conference visits to institutes and research colleagues if such activities are directly related to their primary research in Australia.

3. Education Grants
- New program initiatives that commenced in 2018.
