Manufacturing Efficiency Funding

Overview

This program aims to help manufacturing businesses save energy and money.

It seeks to help manufacturers to:
- Upgrade energy monitoring systems.
- Replace or retrofit old, inefficient equipment.
- Install new energy efficient equipment.
- Improve manufacturing processes.

There are two funding offers available:
1. Offer 1 – Metering and process optimisation
- Allows manufacturers to install or upgrade energy monitoring systems so they can improve machinery and manufacturing processes.
- Funding is capped at $50,000 per site. The project must be implemented within 18 months. The program will fund 50% of incurred costs in two milestone payments:
a) 30% of the incurred costs of commissioning meters (not exceeding 30% of the allocated funding amount)
b) Remaining funding for all other eligible incurred costs such as developing an M&V Plan, analysis and tuning equipment (not exceeding the allocated funding amount).

2. Offer 2a – Simple energy efficiency upgrades
- Allows manufacturers to save energy by replacing or retrofitting technologies like economisers on boilers and variable speed drives.
- Funding is capped at $30,000 per site. The project must be implemented within 12 months. The program will fund 50% of incurred costs for commissioning equipment and simple verification of energy savings.

3. Offer 2b – Measured and verified energy efficiency upgrades
- Supports more complex energy efficiency projects.
- Funding is capped at $70,000 per site. The project must be implemented within 18 months. The program will fund 50% of incurred costs in two milestone payments:
a) 30% of the incurred costs of commissioning equipment (not exceeding 30% of the allocated funding amount).
b) Remaining funding for all other eligible incurred costs such as developing an M&V Report (not exceeding the allocated funding amount).

A total funding pool of $16 million is available.

Who Can Apply?

Eligible applicants must:
- Have an Australian Business Number (ABN) and be registered for GST.
- Undertake manufacturing activities (according to the Manufacturing Division of the Australian and New Zealand Standard Industrial Classification 2006) or cotton ginning in NSW.

For the purposes of this program, manufacturing is defined as the physical or chemical transformation of materials, substances or components into new products.

If the applicant's main business isn’t manufacturing, but they undertake manufacturing activities in NSW and the project is associated with these activities, they may still be eligible.

Eligible Activities

Eligible activities include:
1. Offer 1 – Metering and process optimisation
- Install metering and involve data analysis to identify faulty equipment.
- Install sensors and controls to improve combustion efficiency.
- Fine-tune equipment so it operates more efficiently.

2. Offer 2a – Simple energy efficiency upgrades
- Projects that will save energy, including energy savings calculations and a method to verify the energy savings.

3. Offer 2b – Measured and verified energy efficiency upgrades
- Fuel switching.
- Better integration with renewables.
- Bespoke heat recovery projects.
- Major chiller upgrades.
- High efficiency equipment for new production lines or sites (if applicants can show the efficiency is above industry standard).

Please refer to the Guidelines for the complete list of eligible projects and costs.

Main Assessment Criteria
